Looking For Natural Remedies For Crohn’s Disease
March 18, 2009
There are 2 million cases of Crohn’s disease diagnosed in North America and 95,000 in the United Kingdom. The cause and cure for this condition have not yet been found, but it is thought that it may be an auto-immune condition or occur as a result of lower than normal gastric acid secretions. The joints and eyes can also be affected by this disease in addition to the alimentary canal.

There may be no sign of the disease for several months and then suddenly an individual starts to experience further symptoms. It is essential to understand your flare up triggers in order to avoid them and these triggers can vary between individuals. To circumvent taking medications or because medications are unaffordable, many Crohn’s disease sufferers use natural remedies. Natural remedies help the natural healing processes of the body and may reduce chances of relapses.
For natural treatments to be successful, it is crucial that suitable diets should be followed. Yeast, wheat and milk should be avoided as this can bring relief to many sufferers of this disease. To lessen the risk of developing Crohn’s disease and improve chances of attaining remission, sufferers should have a proper intake of Omega-6 fatty acids (sesame seed, corn oil) and Omega-3 fatty acids (Flaxseed oil, oily fish such as trout and salmon) according to research.
If taken daily (initially one teaspoon, steadily increasing it to one tablespoon), the anti-inflammatory properties of hemp oil, a well balanced oil which contains Omega-3, 6, and 9, are effective in reducing inflammatory processes. Candida - a fungal overgrowth caused by destruction of bacteria (the good type) in the alimentary tract through use of steroids and antibiotics, is another Crohn’s disease related problem. Candida usually occurs as harmless yeast in the bowel, but compromised immune systems can result in overgrowth which may spread in the blood and causes low energy levels.
Two types of natural remedies, available from health food stores (for both Candida overgrowth and Crohn’s disease), are Wormwood and Zell Oxygen. A low residue, low fat diet is recommended for those exhibiting symptoms of the condition, whereas a diet rich in natural fiber is preferable for those in remission. The intestines are helped in their recovery from inflammatory responses by important proper nutrients which promote self healing in the body. The absorption of important nutrients in the diet will be adversely affected if the intestines are inflamed. Sticking to a nutritious and well-balanced diet is extremely important. Processed and high fat foods, caffeine and milk should be avoided if you suffer from Crohn’s disease, as well as other inflammatory bowel diseases and want to stay healthy.
