More and more people are deciding to have hair transplant procedures done as they realize how many improvements have been made to the techniques. Once, it used to be obvious who had undergone some type of bad hair transplant, but that is not necessarily true today. Yet, many people continue to not know some facts about the process.

Men over the age of 50 in the United States are afflicted by baldness on a massive level and it is approximated that 50 percent of American men have hair loss. Today’s male society often deals with the hair problem by shaving their heads completely. For others, hair transplant surgery is a much more viable alternative. Those who accept their baldness may have a healthy psyche, but they are slightly out of step with the rest of the world.

A major factor in surgical procedures is the fact that they are permanent, and cannot be removed with the simplicity of a wig. You need a number of surgical treatments and your head may never look the same. The hair transplant surgery is not a procedure you can try out on a “see if you like it basis,” and you should be wary of any doctor that promises a trial basis.

It is not true that you can immediately return to your old active routines after hair transplant surgery and many people do not realize this because the surgery is so simple to endure. The scalp is just as important to take care of as any major or bone after surgery. The numerous amounts of tiny wounds you’ll have after the procedure will need to be protected.

Hair transplant surgery can be a time-consuming commitment: Treatment can often last one to two years. For many, the decision to endure a mega-session of multiple grafts, sometimes thousands, in one sitting, can be used to shorten the overall time of their hair replacement procedures. The commitment required for these sessions is grueling in and of itself, often requiring a serious amount of time to be performed.

In addition to hair transplant surgery, there are other procedures it may have to be combined with so if you do not have enough hair, you cannot undergo the procedure. However, there are other surgeries that can be used in conjunction with it to achieve similar results. These procedures are actually far more painful for the patient.

The grafts may not survive: Few surgeons will divulge to you the fact that hair grafts do not always survive after hair transplant surgery. Surgeon’s hope that more grafts will survive than will be lost, making the result a positive one. Unfortunately, many grafts do not survive, despite all concentrated efforts.

You can expect to pay around 12,000 dollars for hair transplant surgery, though this is not as expensive as you might believe. This is only 25 dollars per month! Many of the supposedly low cost treatments for hair loss cost much more than 25 dollars per month. Thus, you would actually save money by having the surgery done in the first place.
